Our literacy program is designed to teach students to become strategic readers and writers. Based on the San Diego Unified School District's K-12 Literacy Framework, students participate in a variety of instructional approaches during Readers and Writers Workshops every day, including:
- read alouds,
- shared reading,
- guided reading,
- independent reading,
- word study,
- modeled writing,
- shared writing,
- guided writing
- and independent writing.
Questioning strategies are used to strengthen and develop:
- higher-level thinking skills,
- comprehension,
- and student-to-student interaction or accountable talk.
Speaking and listening skills are also an integral part of our literacy instruction.
