Dress Code

Student Dress Standard

Students and staff at E.B. Scripps expect everyone to have high standards of conduct and appearance. Clothing should be suitable and comfortable for normal school activities and should reflect respect, pride and good standards of the student's home and community.

The student's clothing and appearance should not draw undue attention to the student, nor should his/her clothing and appearance detract or interfere with teaching and learning in the classroom. General clothing standards for all children require that shoes be worn at all times. Sneakers must be worn for P.E. and run club.

The following items should not be worn to school:

  • Open-toed/open-heeled shoes or sandals, crocs, heels or platform shoes
  • Shirts with see-through or cut-out parts on the torso
  • Dangling earrings (studs only)
  • Cosmetics/make up/ fake or gel nails
  • Clothing with inappropriate graphic designs or language

Suggested Clothing

T-shirts, tank-tops, shorts, jeans or long pants with sneakers.

Please Note:

Fingertip rule: When standing, the student's fingertips should touch the hem of the shorts or skirts. Skirts must be worn with undergarments such as shorts, leggings or tights.

We encourage you to observe your child before s/he comes to school to be certain s/he meets your approval in cleanliness and dress and that her/his clothing is appropriate for the weather. Children are not allowed to wear clothing promoting alcohol or smoking or using inappropriate words or images.

To prevent an article of clothing from becoming lost, it is recommended that you label all sweaters, jackets, coats, etc. with the child's full name.
